New York City Trip

This summer my mother and I had the opportunity to travel with a group from Byrdstown and Albany, KY to New York City. We had a wonderful time site seeing and shopping in The Big Apple. We visited Times Square and the largest Macy's in the world. We saw the Broadway show "The Little Mermaid" at the Gershwin House while in Times Square. We visited the Rockefeller Plaza and saw where the giant Christmas tree stands each year. We saw where Good Morning America is filmed each morning and NBC Studios. Around the corner was the St. Patricks Catheral. We went to Tiffany & Co. along with the Trump Tower. Needless to say everything there was to too rich for my blood. While there we went to Central Park--the main place people go in the summer if they don't have air conditioning. The park is what New Yorkers call a natural air conditioner because it's at least 5-7 degrees cooler in the heat of the summer than in the city. John Lennon's memorial is here in the part called "Strawberry Fields" This was named after a field in Liverpool where Lennon played as a child. The Empire State building of course is now the tallest building in the city with the Twin Towers being gone. From the top, it was quite a site to see. Its amazing how much can be placed in such a small area. Manhattan is only 2 miles across and 13 miles long. The last day there we went to Ground Zero and Battery Park. We saw where the Twin Towers once stood and where the new buildings were being erected. We took a ferry over to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. This was an awesome site and made me reflect on our country and what it actually stands for. Even though I had been there before, it was an experience that I will always remember!
